The Revyve Way by Stijn Janssen

Having joined Revyve only a year ago, the uniqueness of Revyve’s culture still resonates with me very much. It has been a warm welcome since day one, with vibrant teams in both Wageningen (the headquarters) and Dinteloord (the production facility). From the start, it was amazing to experience the combination of deep expertise with genuine openness and approachability, which I believe is crucial for a team to grow and be successful.
One thing that struck me immediately was the level of obsession by every team to master their craft, further inspiring me to do the same. From the R&D team squeezing out every bit of functionality to the Applications team innovating product applications on a weekly basis, one could easily see why Revyve was having the traction that it did.
A big one to mention is of course the mammoth effort by the Engineering and Production teams to get the plant up and running. To me, it was a prime example of entrepreneurship and ownership within the company: getting a first-of-a-kind plant up and running within half a year and immediately producing sellable product is an incredible feat that propelled Revyve to commercialisation in no time.
Of course, this then put the pressure on the Sales team, which picked up the challenge and more than delivered in the past few quarters. Key here is to gain and retain customers’ trust, not only with the product functioning like it’s supposed to, but also putting product safety and -quality first, especially when supplying to larger customers. This customer-centric mindset was essential in getting the first clients on board, which are still with us today.
The combination of the above made it possible to get the impressive group of committed partners that we now have with Revyve. With stellar distribution partners like Lallemand in the US and Daymer in the UK, we have everything we need to succeed in these geographies. Newest additions include Firmalis and NCC, which we are very excited about. These achievements could really onlybe done by performing together as one team, with each team continuously raising the bar and taking pride in our successes.
The next chapter of Revyve is all about scaling up and demonstrating the true potential of yeast proteins. Having a firm base in the Netherlands, we are more than ready to exponentially grow our capacity and deliver global impact. In the end, what drives us collectively is the ambition to make an actual change in the food system by rolling out a truly plant-based alternative to existing, animal-derived texturizing solutions.
Not to forget: a cornerstone event in my first year was the team outing to Ghent, where we bonded a lot as a team, both on work-related topics and also other things… Having quite a few functional teams – Sales, Applications, R&D, Engineering, Production, Marketing, Growth and Finance – with a relatively small team with can sometimes seem daunting, but in Ghent we many to bridge those gaps with ease. Right now, I’m looking forward to the next annual Revyve tradition: the Christmas dinner!
